How to stop Raging in Rocket League (2021)

Raging in Rocket League is often some people’s highlights, but we’ve all felt really down at one stage when playing the game. Whether you’ve played against a rage box or your team is failing to make a save (what a save), anger can often just pour out of you – even if you’re the chilliest player out there. Today, we look at some ways to stop raging in Rocket League and be a better person, and teammate for years to come.

Side Note: There comes a time where raging in games may transpire into “real-life” circumstances, and taking anger out of the video game onto other people can often lead to negative impacts on you, and others around you. If this is happening, we highly recommend speaking to a legal and authorized anger management specialist, or if you feel you are putting yourself in danger or others around you – contact local authorities and take deep breaths.

Find the reason you’re raging.

You don’t get angry at games for no reason – Games are supposed to be fun and because of that, your rage will have been triggered by something. Who is to blame? Is it you, your teammates, the game, your internet? Find out the reason you’re raging and run through the following steps;

  1. Can the problem be fixed?
  • Would restarting the internet, game, help the issue? Could you politely and calmly tell your teammates that they should be moving to another site position faster?
  1. If a problem can’t be fixed, how can you try to limit its effect?
  • Would you playing on another site, or in a different play style help the game? Could you move your position around a house to get better internet connection? Could you use a worse mouse, but one that actually works?
  1. If nothing can be done, how do you mitigate (resolve) your rage?
  • If nothing can be done – can you leave the game? Can you simply stop playing for a few moments until you can calm down? Some of the reasons below will help you understand and help you calm down.

Why you have to be mad? It’s only video-game.

We don’t really want to use the meme here, but it’s true. Video games in general, and especially Rocket League are meant to provide you with a great level of fun and competition. Rocket League can be very frustrating at times when strange builds and bad connections can literally ruin your mood for the whole night.

If you find yourself raging at Rocket League, then maybe Rocket League isn’t the game you should be playing at that time.

Find another “Calm” game / Safe-space Game

Finding a calm game, or a safe-space game can often be beneficial. Make sure you find a game that you can simply not rage at.  A lot of people play Minecraft, Genshin Impact, or even Osu that will prevent people from raging when they are at their angriest.

Playing such a game for 20 minutes or longer may even help calm you down totally, enough to play more games like Rocket League in the same day. Be sure to take breaks from these games too!

Turn Negative Thoughts into a Positive One

Turning negative thoughts into positive one isn’t always the easiest way to combat rage. Let’s get into a scenario. You’re playing in a 2v2 and your teammates are rushing after the ball, leaving your net wide open and double committing. Your teammate bumps you on the way back and messes the both of you up leading to a goal to the enemy team.

Communication at this point should’ve been able to resolve this, both that and skill. For a start your teammate should’ve been sat back if you were committing, or you should’ve been sat back whilst they attacked. A bit of communication in the chat or with the quick-chat functions within the game can sometimes help with this.

In this situation, and when playing Rocket League in general – communication is always key and you need to ensure that you can easily communicate positions, both you and your enemies to ensure that you have the best fighting chance to win the game. With this being said, if your teammate was aware, you were far away, and wasn’t pushed – then this is on them and their bad calls, you shouldn’t be mad when you’re trying your best, even though it can be super frustrating.

Rocket League is a team game and if they’re not playing it correctly, then that’s on them – and not you. The below way to stop raging in Rocket League is also another option you can deploy, if possible, to avoid raging and situations like this.

Play with people you Know to stop Raging in Rocket League

Playing with people you know may not make the situation any better, but it may help improve the quality of the game, and may even help you win more games. When playing as a team, communications can be 10-fold better than standard voice/text chat when solo-queuing in the game.

Playing as a team, with people you know may also help you calm down, as other conversations may be being held that can infuse happiness and joyfulness into the chat. You’re also less-likely to flame someone you know, or at least you shouldn’t.

How to STOP Raging in Rocket League

Take Constant Breaks

I’ve witnessed this both from being the gamer, and the receiver. Taking breaks from games can be crucial and not only this, but will also help you stop raging at Rocket League. Don’t sit at your PC or laptop for more than 2-3 games at any one time. Simply stand up, go get some food, a drink, go for a walk, or do another task that is away from the PC.

You will be amazed at how much a 10-minute break can do for you. We strongly advice playing for maybe 2-3 hours before you need a break, in which you can spend how you like – or even play your calm game to help relax your head!

Turn off “Communications” in Settings to Stop Raging in Rocket League

Rocket League is rated E, which means for everyone. In this, however, online communications and interactions with other players are never monitored or considered into this rating. With this being said, you are able to mute players.

To do this, simply get to the Voice/Text Chat Disabled section in the Settings > Gameplay tab. This is the best way to eliminate toxic players both on your team or in the opposition.

Conclusion on Raging in Rocket League

In conclusion, Rocket League should be a fun and competitive game for you, not a sad ball of anger and depression. Hopefully, some of these tips in this guide has helped you be a calmer player when playing Rocket League, but if you feel it has gone too far – and anger is being pulled from outside the game into real-life situations, then don’t hesitate to get professional help via. A Counsellor and or contact your local authorities for advice and help.
